Talent attraction, engagement and retention
CAR Group’s culture is more than a set of values. It’s the foundation of how we operate, collaborate, and grow. It reflects who we are, how we show up for each other, and how we deliver on our purpose: to make buying and selling a great experience. Our Group strategy articulates a clear and unifying cultural identity that supports high performance, innovation, and a sense of belonging.

Our culture is defined by five core statements that guide behaviours and decision-making across the Group:
We think differently – innovation is at our core, we challenge convention and seek better ways to do things.
We’re passionate about what we do – our energy and commitment drive us to deliver great outcomes.
We’ve got the courage to try new things – we embrace experimentation and learn from failure.
We collaborate for growth – we believe in the power of teamwork to unlock potential and scale impact.
We have fun, but we get it done – we balance performance with enjoyment, creating a workplace that’s both productive and energising.
These statements are embedded in leadership expectations, employee experiences, and strategic initiatives, ensuring that culture remains a living part of CAR Group’s identity as it grows globally.
CAR Group’s culture has been intentionally designed and nurtured to create the right conditions for our people to do their best work, wherever they are in the world. Our approach incorporates both global and local initiatives, ensuring we continue to attract, develop, and retain the best talent while building high-performing teams.
Diversity, equity and inclusion
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are core to our identity and operations. We recognise that a diverse workforce fuels innovation, improves decision-making, and strengthens our Group to better serve our customers. Because of this, we aim to create inclusive, equitable workplaces where everyone feels valued and empowered. Our global DEI strategy adapts to local contexts, understanding that diversity varies with community.
Gender equality and pay equity
CAR Group is committed to achieving gender equality and addressing any gender imbalances that may exist across the Group.
As a technology business, a large proportion of our roles are digital in nature (e.g. technology, data, product, design) however females are notably underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and careers – not just in Australia but globally. We are therefore acutely aware of the gender challenges that our industry faces and how a lack of representation impacts our gender pay gap. We have been delivering initiatives that aim to address the drivers of gender pay gaps and increase the representation of females in our business for many years.
Our reward strategy is centred around the principles of fairness, consistency and pay for performance, regardless of gender or other personal characteristics. All CAR Group marketplaces assess and monitor their gender pay gap and have reward related strategies in place to reduce their pay gap, including the use of salary survey data to benchmark roles against market and unbiased work performance evaluation processes.
We expect like for like positions to be paid the same except in instances where there is an acceptable reason for a differential related to relative experience, job performance or tenure. We are committed to remedying pay gaps where an acceptable reason does not exist.

Health, safety and wellbeing

Health, safety and wellbeing are foundational to how we operate and support our people. We aim to create workplaces that are both physically and psychologically safe, where everyone can meaningfully contribute and thrive. We foster a culture of safety by setting clear expectations for appropriate conduct and respectful behaviour, and have robust procedures in place for managing reports of unacceptable behaviour, including sexual harassment, discrimination, and workplace violence.
Our Work Health and Safety (WHS) management system is designed to comply with Australian legislative requirements and best practice industry standards. It includes policies, procedures, and resources aimed at promoting health, safety, and wellbeing at work, identifying workplace risks and hazards, and implementing appropriate control measures.
Our marketplaces have an embedded health and safety strategy or policy in place that meet local legislative requirements and reporting obligations. They also have incident reporting procedures through which team members can report accidents, incidents, work-related illnesses, and near misses. Reported incidents are thoroughly investigated to determine their cause, mitigate the risk of recurrence, and meet reporting requirements. In markets where there is an obligation to notify a state or federal body of notifiable incidents, our businesses have procedures in place to ensure compliance. For areas of our business or roles within our Group identified as having a higher risk of WHS incidents, additional measures are implemented to manage and mitigate these risks.

We maintain an open and transparent culture where all employees are encouraged to raise WHS concerns and remove themselves from dangerous situations with the full support of their manager and the People and Culture team. Our See Something? Say Something! Policy protects team members who report a hazard or incident from victimisation and harassment.
Recognising the benefits of mentally healthy workplaces, we offer a free, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to all team members globally which offers counselling on a wide range of topics, conducted by qualified counsellors. Additionally, to support the mental wellbeing of our team, we have provided the Headspace meditation and wellness app to all Australian team members. Health, safety and wellbeing are more than compliance obligations at CAR Group, they are integral to how we lead, work, and care for one another.
